One Example of everyday Vegan Food

This post doesn’t involve a recipe or recipe book its just quick and easy food I make when I’m hungry.

This is a Veggie -Tofurkey  stir fry using Trader Joes Asian Vegetable with Beijing style soy sauce

and Tofurkey Italian Sausage. I add a little maple syrup and pepper to it just because I like my food

to be a little sweet and a little spicy.

and this is a bruschetta using fresh-baked ciabatta bread from the whole foods bakery

Trader Joe’s garlic flavored olive oil, heirloom tomatoes, fresh cracked pepper and

Diaya vegan cheese, so yummy. Tomorrow vegan waffles :)   yum !!!!

DC Vegfest 2011 and Week One of the Vegan Cookbook Challenge

Last weekend I went to the DC VegFest and saw the one and only Isa Chandra Moskowitz :) !!!!!!

I saw her cooking demo where she made a vegan gumbo and a vegan cheesecake and then I got in line for her to sign my copy of one her awesome  vegan cookbooks Vegan with a Vengeance. I also got a copy of the sampler of her new Vegan Pie in the Sky book due out the end of this month (Oct 25 2011). It had two recipes in it one of which (a chocolate caramel sea salt tart) I hope to try, and blog about, soon.

The week of the Veg Fest also happened to be week one of the Vegan Cookbook Challenge (which you can check out at www.theppk.com ) For week one you can choose any Isa and Terri book and I choose the one that I got signed, Vegan with a Vengeance . I choose the following recipes for my  cookbook challenge recipes this week

Maple Walnut Cookies

Sweet Potato Oatmeal Cookies (the recipe was for pumpkin but the sweet potato puree substitution worked out great)

And Sweet Potato Fries

Vegan Mofo & My 1st Blog Post

Recently I came across something called Vegan MoFO (aka The Vegan Month of Food) online. It’s basically a challenge for all those Vegan Food Lovers out there to post at least 20 vegan food related posts over the course of a month. In the process you get share recipes, food finds, and information with everyone out there looking for more info on Vegan Food. Budding vegan baker that I am; I thought it might be fun to participate and give myself an official excuse to bake, cook, and buy new vegan cookbooks to my heart’s content. It also gave me a reason to start my very own blog. So over the next month, starting officially Oct 1st,  I plan to bring you one post a week about:

1)  the Vegan Cookbook Challenge (This is a challenge I saw on the post punk kitchen website ( www.theppk.com a must visit site for all budding vegan chefs) that involves cooking from a different vegan cookbook every week for 12 weeks)

2) Vegan Pre-prepared Food (because although I love to cook I don’t have time to cook everyday)

3) Vegan Casseroles/Soups (Because its edging towards winter and casseroles, soups, and warm foods in general help keep me happy as the cold weather moves in)

4) Vegan Desserts (Cakes, Cookies, Pies, and All Things Sweet; by far the post I’m most looking forward to)

5) Vegan Surprise (A post to give me the Freedom to talk about whatever vegan food related subject I want )

So I hope you enjoy this experience with me as I share my love of vegan food and learn about all the things I can do with my very own blog
